Some updates...
1) NFL Draft:
Love our draft. We didn't reach or give up picks and we got 2-3 starters who could contribute right away. We also filled positions that we actually needed, instead of taking more skill guys (dime a dozen). I like all 4 picks - all with a lot of upside and solid prospects to play next season. What more can you ask for?
Other draft notes: Josh McDaniels is quickly doing everything he can to get fired and destroy the Broncos, Clausen got picked where he should have (if you suck, you're not slipping when you get picked #60) and can't wait to see Jhavid Best on the field. Dude looks sick.
2) Bulls vs Cavs
Watching game 5 right now (52-46 Cavs) and beginning to smell the stench of first round exit. I couldn't give a shit about anyone on the Bulls other than Rose and Noah right now. I'm tired of Hinrich and his 36% shooting. I'm sick of Brad Miller's dirty playing and I'm bored of VDN's offense. Let's go get Wade (or even Boozer) and then I think we've got some potential to actually win a round before the team blows up. We forget, there is a SMALL window of opportunity in the NBA - injuries, contracts, bad drafts and you've got a 5-6 year window to put together a run and Rose is already headed into his 3rd season (although he keeps getting insanely better... what an improvement in his jumpshot!).
3) Hawks
We're going to win it all. Closed out the feisty Predators without any major injuries. Sharp, Hossa and Kane all look great and Niemi didn't crap his pants. I like our chances back in the Semi's for the second year in a row. I hope the Caps get knocked out tomorrow...
4) Sox / Cubs

Wait, let me decipher that quote:

This is, quite possibly, the best news ever. I mean, even the article says he had a low 90's fastball in college. If he can turn that into a 2-seam, or somehow pull a breaking ball out of his ass, he might even be useful! There's even the slight chance that he pulls a Sergio Santos somehow and becomes good. I'm seriously pooping my pants right now at the prospect of his succeeding as a pitcher.
He'd definitely rank in the top 50 batters that are pitchers. Only the top 50, though.

Thomas Jones and his Biceps Headed to the Chiefs
As you all know, I have a man-crush on Thomas Jones. I want to smother myself between his biceps. Sometimes during Jets games, I would fantasize about being at the bottom of a pile with him... .... um, nevermind. Anyway, TJ just signed a 2 year deal with the Chiefs, sending Jamaal Charles' fantasy stock plummeting while giving Thomas Lenihan a nervous breakdown.

Holy Shit Nuggets
CALL ME "JULIE" ONE MORE TIME. I FUCKING DARE YOU.
As strange as this is for me to type, I'm going to try:
"It's a good day to be a Bears fan."
Man, that felt really weird. I mean, barring a couple months in the mid-80's, and that brief spurt in 2006, was there ever a time when you were excited for the Bears and not just blindly hoping for the best (see: Cubs fans, 1908-present)? Some of you could argue that Cutler was a good reason to get excited, but we had plenty of holes/issues going into last season.
With Peppers, Taylor, and Manamanwich....whatever, we get a lot of reasons to get excited. First of all, let's talk about Peppers: he is a fucking beast. I don't care if he half-asses it for 30% of all the downs - that's 7 out of 10 downs where he is destroying people. Alex Brown and Mark Anderson don't exactly strike fear into the hearts of men, people.
And now, some video of Peppers ending people's lives:

Let's talk about Chester Taylor - here's a guy who does more than just "spell" Matt Forte. Look at what Taylor did with the Vikings for the past few years: if Adrian Peterson had to miss some time, you wouldn't know the difference from the box score other than that the name "Taylor" is where "Peterson" should be. The Bears toyed with a bruiser like Khalil Bell last year, and while the guy finishes his runs strong, he's not quite developed enough to be someone you trust with the ball. With Taylor, the Bears have their best running tandem since TJ and Benson. Taylor can block, catch, and pound the ball...not to mention that he's the Marshall Faulk-type back that Martz loves. I like this a lot.
Last, but not least, Brandon Manumaluena (I'll get the hang of spelling it eventually) comes in as a blocker in a Martz scheme that he's not only familiar with after spending 4 years with the Rams, but he also serves as an insurance policy to Olsen. As much as I love He-Man, there's a good chance that Greg Olsen gets dealt for draft considerations or a receiver (my dreams of acquiring Anquan Boldin may be shattered now that the Ravens have him, but that doesn't mean that we can't bring in a big posession receivier anyways). If Olsen goes, the big BM can fill that void nicely. And if Olsen stays, you've got an extra tackle in 2 TE sets.
With Urlacher back and the Bears not exactly "finished" this offseason, there is really some room to get excited.

NBA Trade Deadline, Ty Thomas, Joe Noah's foot and Live Dong
Luol Deng in the flesh at MSG. Fucking phone cameras...
Went to the Bulls/Knicks game in NY last night. Turns out, Kirk Hinrich actually DOES suck. I swear to god he missed every single shot last night including ones my fat semi-blind brother could make if he was that wide open. Not only are we stuck with that miserable contract but he's getting worse every season. Gah!
A few other observations:
Tyrus Thomas is fun to watch. He's inconsistent but freakishly athletic. You just know he's gonna throw down a mean dunk when you see the open lane. You know he's dying to swat shots in the paint and you know he's not thinking about foul trouble or the actual game (which is exciting!). You never know what's going to happen with him. I guess we'll have to watch Charlotte games to find out...
Derrick Rose is the shit. He doesn't even look like he's trying while he's dominating. It pisses me off actually... you see Pargo out there busting his ass trying to move the ball and beat Duhon off the dribble and then Rose does it like you woke him up from a good nap and he's hungover. It's insane. I'm sure gonna enjoy watching him and Bosh next season.
The Garden is pretty cool actually, except for those annoying guys the Knicks pay to "rouse" the crowd. They are annoying. Otherwise, all the seats are pretty good, the crowd wasn't particularly hostile and while they know their team sucks, they still care.
Cheerleaders are underrated. Better in person.
D'Antoni might have a hear attack before the end of the season.
VDN is brutal. There were no actual "plays" last night, just Rose creating shots and Deng/Miller hitting them. He needs to go. It's bad for Rose (and Hinrich, apparently). Has anyone gotten better under his coaching?
Deng is silky smooth.
Taj is pretty good.
Brad Miller is awesome and a dirty, dirty thug.
David Lee is wildly overrated.
On the trade deadline: Sucks we couldn't deal Hinrich or land TMac (he'd have actually been a good fit on the Bulls). I'm hopeful we can land Bosh or Wade next year but even if we don't, we didn't destroy our team to try (like the Knicks did).

You think my THIGHS are big...just wait and see
As of 2010, Frank Thomas is officially done with baseball (even though we knew he was finished after a sub-sub-subpar season with Toronto/Oakland in 2008). For anyone living outside of Chicago, you probably are thinking "Oh, OK. He was good. I guess."
No, Frank Thomas was not "good."
Frank Thomas was fucking AMAZING.
In an era where the "top hitters" tested positive for steroids, corked bats, and stupidity, Thomas provided consistent production year in and year out. A career .300 hitter, Thomas was not exactly known for being "fast" but he was known for playing smart (Little known fact - Thomas is the only player in Major League history to hit over 100 sacrifice flies and not collect a single sacrifice bunt. Yes, the links are there for you people that don't know the difference). He's fourth on the all-time list for sac flies, often helping drive in stranded Sox runners instead of striking out while trying to launch a homerun.
Not only was he an absolute monster with the long ball, but he was patient. Thomas drew 138 walks in 1991 - the most of any player in a single year in that DECADE, not to mention the most since the 1960s. Oh, and did I mention that he is the only clean player of the modern era to have over 500 HR and a .300+ average? That's a list of big names like Ruth, Williams, Aaron, and Mays, and two people that probably shouldn't be there (A-Rod and Manny).
Speaking of 'roids...
No one, under any circumstances, accused Thomas of using. He fucking HATED steroids. Not only was he ACTIVELY involved in the Mitchell report (he volunteered, and was the only active player to speak up), but he also advocated steroid testing way back in 1995. If I were the best fucking baseball player of the last 20 years and some assholes who kissed their fingers and launched 60+ HR stole the spotlight, I would be pissed too.
Once you take some questionable names off the list, Thomas is THE hitter of the 1990s, hands down. Yeah, I know we covered this before, but it needs to be said again: Thomas is the best.
So long Frank, and thanks for the memories. I will always remember the sight of your gigantic thighs as you slowly lumbered out of the batter's box on one of your many extra base hits.
