One of the great things about the internet is the ability to look up things that are really not worth paying to see, and seeing them for free. 1994's Surviving the Game is a perfect example of such a film. With a cast of shitty-movie giants such as Ice-T, Rutger Hauer, and Gary motherfucking Busey, this movie is definitely not worth a $4 rental, but it's a pretty entertaining way to spend an hour and a half.
The general idea is this: Ice-T plays Mason, a homeless man who is lured to the wilderness by the promise of a job as a hunting guide for some rich, if disturbed, businessmen. He soon finds out that they don't plan on hunting animals, but rather Mason himself. Awesomeness ensues as Ice, unarmed and on foot, takes on 5 crazy-ass white motherfuckers with ATVs and automatic weapons.
Almost everyone in this movie is a sociopath, and therefore gets to say some pretty cool one-liners. But top honors obviously go to Gary Busey, who delivers a brilliant fucked-up rant early in the film. Obviously he was not in character or aware that he was being filmed, and was probably just talking about his own childhood.
Another highlight of the film is F. Murray Abraham's awesome "NOOOOOOOOO!!!!" as his son falls to his death. This scene seems to have become a minor YouTube phenomenon, thanks to young people who clearly don't appreciate good acting.
Yeah, this plot's been done before in other movies (most notably Van Damme's Hard Target). Yeah, there's a bunch of shit in here that makes no sense. But there is something to be said for ridiculous entertainment, and this movie is right up there with Double Team. And for fuck's sake man, Ice-T and Gary Busey in the same film?!?!! The whole thing is on YouTube, and it should keep you busy until something sports-related actually happens back in the real world.
